The safety and comfort of staff and visitors at our cheese shop remain our top priorities. Masks are still required inside the shop. Outside, please follow California mask guidelines. Marin French Cheese Co. is located in Petaluma in West Marin, bordering the two beautiful counties of Marin and Sonoma and welcomes visitors from around the world to our cheese shop and picnic grounds. Our location is perfect for those picking up provisions on their way to the coast or heading out for a day of wine tasting. We recommend bringing family or friends along to enjoy the scenic grounds and natural beauty of West Marin, or to shop for gifts and goods from local California producers. 

Our cheese shop has everything you’ll need for a picnic by the pond. Locally-made wine, beer and ciders, sandwiches and salads, and all of our delicious handmade cheeses. Whether you’re an epicure or just epicurious, we’re sure you’ll find plenty of products to enjoy. Hours

Our cheese shop is open daily from 10am to 6pm for summer hours and 9am-5pm for winter hours, except for major holidays.

Info For Visitors

We love our customers and want everyone to share in the enjoyment of our beautiful property. We ask that all visitors be respectful of our grounds. Marin French Cheese Co. is owned and operated on private property.

Dogs are welcome at the picnic grounds while on leash. They are not permitted inside the cheese shop.

Picnic tables are open to use for any customers. Please enjoy the tables and open spaces and follow the signs for the grounds and open & closed hours.*

Bathrooms are available for use by customers. An access code is provided at the bottom of your receipt.

No outside BBQ grills or fires of any kind are permitted at this time.

Please feel free to bring your own blankets and chairs to enjoy picnicking on the grass.

*A minimum purchase or table assignment may be required on special holidays or for advanced reservations.

First, you get to spend your morning driving out into West Marin which is either fun or just beautiful depending on what kind of car you drive and how fast you like to drive it. You can stop along the coast, take a hike somewhere, and in the end find your way to the cheese factory to set up a nice afternoon picnic and watch the sunset in front of you. At times this place can get busy, but it's never crowded. It's a regular stop for all the cyclists too. Coming from
Santa Rosa

South Hwy. 101

Take the E. Washington St. Exit (2nd exit)

At the light, turn Right on E. Washington St.

Follow E. Washington St. to the 3rd stop light and turn Left on Lakeville Street.

Turn Right at the next light on "D" Street.
Follow "D" Street 11 miles until you see the firehouse on the right.

Marin French Cheese Co.’s cheese shop is just after the firehouse on the right.

Coming from
San Francisco

North Hwy. 101

At Novato take the Atherton/San Marin exit.

At the light turn, Left on San Marin Dr.

Follow San Marin Dr. approximately 2½ miles to Novato Blvd.

Turn Right on Novato Blvd. And go 7½ miles until it dead ends into Pt. Reyes/Petaluma Rd.

Turn Left on Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Rd. and go ⅓ of a mile just past the firehouse, Marin French Cheese Co.’s cheese shop is on the right.
