Marin French Cheese Co. was founded in 1865 and we have been making cheese in the same creamery since then, making us the country’s oldest cheese company.

Yes! We welcome visitors every day, year-round with the exception of a few major holidays. Our cheese shop and cafe are both open daily with their hours shifting seasonally: 11:00am-5:00pm during the winter, 11:00am-6:00pm in the spring, and 10:00am-6:00pm during summer. Please check our Visit Us page for the most current hours.

Bask in the West Marin beauty! Our property can feel like stepping back in time as not much has changed around us over the past 160 years. Sample some handcrafted cheeses in our shop, enjoy a picnic by the pond, walk our new Heritage Trail, and spot a few wildlife locals.

We currently do not offer tours of our creamery, but we encourage visitors to visit our Heritage Trail and museum to learn more about our unique history. 

Absolutely! Our picnic grounds and tables are available for all customers. Our cheese shop has everything you may need for a great picnic spread.

Reservations are not required to visit the cheese shop or for small groups looking to use a picnic table during their visit. Please note that picnic tables are first come, first serve.

If your group would like to use 2 or more picnic tables, please contact us to make a reservation. Our picnic tables and parking spots are both limited.

Yes! We have everything you may need for a perfect picnic spread, especially the cheese. You can also enjoy heartier options like seasonal pizzas, sandwiches, & salads from our cafe.

Our cheese shop team has thoughtfully curated a selection of local provisions to accompany our cheeses for your onsite enjoyment. We don’t mind if you bring some other picnic supplies, but we encourage you to try what they have put together.

We would love to host your group for a visit. From picnic table reservations to cheeseboards and café pre-orders, we are happy to help create a fantastic experience at the ranch. Open fires and personal grills are prohibited. There is a BBQ area available to rent for groups. Please email cheeseshop@marinfrenchcheese.com for more information

Dogs are welcome on the property, they are not permitted inside the cheese shop. Please keep dogs leashed at all times and pick up after your dog.

Yes, we have restrooms on our property that are for customer use only. Please find the code at the bottom of your receipt after making a purchase.

We currently offer physical gift cards to be used for purchases made at our cheese shop location Petaluma. Digital gift cards can be purchased online and must be used online.
